WSOP 2016 – What to expect

Come May 31st, the eyes of poker fans around the world will be trained on Las Vegas, and the World Series of Poker 2016. This year is the 47thWorld Series, making it the longest-running poker tournament in the world. For the 2016 competition, organisers have decided to switch things up a little to keep things interesting. Today we outline what you can expect…

Changes to the format…

1 – New start times

In the 2016 series, start times for matches will all be brought forward by an hour.

2 – More payout opportunities
Across the vast majority of the timetable, payout will increase to 15 percent of the field, amounting to a 50 percent increase on last year’s tournament. This means participants have the opportunity to reach the money earlier in the competition.

3 – More starting chips

All $10,000 buy-in events will receive 50,000 starting chips as standard, even in the Main Event. This is an increase of a whopping 66 percent on previous years.

4 – Colossus II three starting days

Those wanting to compete in the Colossus II event will have three opportunities to do so, and can buy-in for just $565. Entry to this competition puts them in the running for a $1 million first place prize, plus there’s a $7 million prize pool guarantee.

What else?

As always the World Series of Poker 2016 will be offering the widest variety of poker games of any tournament. So, whatever discipline you enjoy, you’ll find it in Las Vegas in May.

The ‘Something for Everyone’ schedule will include daily deep stack tournaments, gold bracelet events, satellites, and cash games running for the duration of the 50-day tournament. Buy-ins start at as little as $75, and cash games begin on day one, and run 24 hours a day throughout.

The World Series of Poker 2016 runs from May 31st to July 18th, and is taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
