Dusk Till Dawn to host Sky Poker 6-Max UK Poker Championships this summer

The inaugural Sky Poker UK Poker Championships in February 2014 was such a big success that Sky Poker and host venue Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) have decided to do it all over again this summer. The one difference this time round is that the entire festival will be played out in an exciting 6-max format.

There will be six events with a total guaranteed prizepool of £1m across the 11 day festival. The main event once again has a £1,000 buy-in and has an ambitious guarantee of £500,000. To try and reach the 500 players required DTD are having three starting days, the first on Tuesday August 12 and running through until Thursday August 14. It seems that DTD were inspired by the remarkable turnout for the £500 6-max side event at February’s UKPC. 402 players entered that event, smashing the £100k guarantee and rewarding eventual champion Ben Dobson with a £45,000 prize.

Alongside the main event will be five other tournaments, all with significant guarantees. The £3,000 high roller will be sure to attract the biggest names in UK poker, and there are also PLO and turbo events to play. PokerPlayer.co.uk also loves the idea of the 5-max Mini tournament. A £150,000 prizepool is guaranteed with just a £250 buy-in – the prizepool will also contain 50 seats into the festival’s main event – making this a unique combination of a major tournament and satellite. That’s sure to be a popular addition to the schedule.

It’s undoubtedly a bold move from both Sky Poker and DTD to make the festival exclusive 6-handed. However, Head of Sky Poker Richard Milner said in a press release:

“After the success of the inaugural Sky Poker UK Poker Championships earlier this year, we are delighted to announce this additional 6-Max festival. With the excellent team and facilities that DTD offer, we’re sure it will be a great event and we know that 6-Max is very popular with Sky Poker customers. The previous event was full of many well-known and high profile favourites from the UK poker scene and we expect the same this time.”

Much of the success of February’s UKPC was due to the excellent efforts from both DTD and Sky Poker in qualifying players for the event in advance. Over 100 players won seats on Sky Poker alone, which helped bring in an excellent total of 621 runners to the main event. All parties will no doubt be looking for similar success this time round – satellites will start running on SkyPoker.com from Monday April 21.
