Betfair freeroll 9 report

Congratulations to 'DestroyU2' who won the ninth freeroll on 4 September

It was a desperate night for the PokerPlayer desperados. With a field of nearly 500 runners, four of the big guns were out well before the halfway point. From there another two managed to crack the 200 and only a lone shooter made the top 100 – and only just. Poor.

‘Dudek’ went first in 411th, followed by ‘Dicey’ in 370th whose A-K when shortstacked was beaten by A-J after his Kings ran into a flopped full house.

‘K_Unknown’ and ‘HillyFish’, fresh from his WSOP success in Vegas, followed closely after in 327th and 321st positions respectively . ‘K_Unknown’ recognising that his mistake was to “try and bluff someone in a freeroll”.

Next to be gunned down were ‘Tallulah’ and ‘Shafty78’ in 178th and 132nd. ‘Shafty78’ also suffered from the curse of A-K, facing ‘shorthead’s’ 9-8. ‘shorthead’ hit two pair, while our man hit nothing. Congratulations to ‘shorthead’ who went on to finish second.

So it was left to ‘darklord5’ to push on and try and salvage some pride for the PokerPlayer Posse. He started steadily, despite an all-in from ‘spart222’ on the very first hand with A-10. Within 10 minutes ‘darklord5’ was himself all-in with K-K which held up in the face of T-T.

With a few chips it was easier to pick spots, and a great all-in read on an opponent’s 6-6 when holding mighty pocket Sevens meant another double-up and a lofty 8th position about half an hour in.

From there it was the usual story of donating chips up to the first break with middling hands and cursed A-Ks. The break arrived with ‘darklord5’ in 120th with an adequate 2,485 in chips.

In the next session, pocket rockets and A-K arrived and were played strongly, to deny any draws, but for not much profit.

The end came against the catchily named ‘878454523’, and it was inglorious one. ‘darklord5’ made possibly the worst decision of his entire campaign, moving all in with 4-4 on the river, with three overcards on the board.

It was a pitiful finish, but at least he picked up a good tip for today’s 4.20 at Lingfield from a player on his last table. We’ll let you know how that panned out next time.

The final table convened at around 10.20pm with ‘Malarkey’ and ‘shorthead’ the big stacks, evenly matched on just under 150,000 in chips.

These two had a big chip lead and battled back and forth while chipping away at the shorter stacks.

However It was another player, ‘c16ung’, who stormed into it and reached the last break in the lead with 243,000 in chips. But it wasn’t to be as ‘DestroyU2’ and ‘shorthead’ made it to the heads-up confrontation.

The two stacks were pretty even with the blinds at a towering 8,000/16,000 with chunky antes attached, and it was over swiftly. ‘DestroyU2’ pushed with A-Q and was called by A-4. The Queen paired and two Tens showed on the board meaning ‘DestroyU2’s’ two pair with Ace kicker crushed ‘shorthead’s’ holding.

Final table placings:
1. DestroyU2
2. shorthead
3. Malarkey
4. c16ung
5. djs78
6. AJDUK
7. TaxMonkey
8. sickboy68
