Ivey Makes Fifth Final Table

Still no bracelet but #RealIveyTweets is born

The 2012 WSOP is now unofficially the World Series of Phil Ivey. The ex-Full Tilt star has been on a heater not even his biggest fans could have imagined, and even though he narrowly missed out on a ninth career bracelet in the $2,500 Mixed HE this week – recording his fifth final table of the series in the process – he was at least trending on Twitter.

After skipping last year’s WSOP following the Full Tilt debacle, Ivey’s made up for lost time in the past few weeks, notching up more final table appearances than 99% of poker players will achieve in their lifetime.

But despite all the deeps runs, seven-figure cashes and more than $500k in WSOP prizemoney in 2012, a ninth career bracelet is proving illusive even for poker’s greatest player. His eighth place finish in the $2,500 Mixed HE was good enough for $21,669, but with Ivey’s much rumoured seven-figure bracelet bets still looming large, the sixth final table shouldn’t be too far away.

#RealIveyTweets

Aside from Ivey’s remarkable form, onlookers at this year’s WSOP have noted he’s been noticeably quiet away from the tables, even for a man not renowned for his over-the-top personality. Yet his Twitter account has been a little noisier, and as he took his seat at the $2,500 Mixed final table, Ivey told his followers: ‘Just starting! Shout out to all the fans! I hear you. #WSOP –PI.’

Not long after, fellow poker pro Tony Dunst questioned the credibility of Ivey’s Twitter account, claiming it was ‘1000 times more chipper than the real life Ivey’. From there, #RealIveyTweets was born.

Poker pros, fans and everyone associated with the game have since been tweeting their suggestions for what a ‘real’ Phil Ivey Twitter account would look like. We’ve pulled together some of the best suggestions below:
