Keston wins leg 10 of GUKPT

Cash-game specialist Robert Keston takes down London leg of GUKPT at the Vic

Robert Keston has won leg 10 of this season’s GUKPT after defeating the largest Main Event field on the GUKPT so far this season. Keston pocketed £84,310 for his victory, which took place at London’s iconic Grosvenor Victoria Casino. Outlasting a 315-strong which included British legends such as Victoria Coren, Julian Thew, Barny Boatman and Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott, the win takes Keston’s total tournament earnings to over $1.2 million.
An exciting and action-packed final table saw Keston dealt Aces in three key hands which helped him overturn Matthew Davenport’s lead and also to eliminate Ramsey Ajram, who he later admitted was giving him the most trouble at the final table.
Davenport who was the eventual third place finisher, failed to go one better to his runner-up finish in last months Main Event at the GUKPT Coventry, despite looking favourite to do so right up until mid-final way through the final table.
With the action down to the last two, Keston was in a dominating position, but his opponent Daniel Rudd wasn’t ready to give up and managed to fight his way back into the match. A marathon ensued and it took Keston just over three hours to eventually finish Rudd off.
“It was slipping away from me,” he said after his win, “I had to give myself a talking to in the break, came back to ramp it up.  With a big lead like that it’s yours to lose!” Luckily for him his pep-talk worked and he managed to pull himself together to take down one of the most prestigious legs of the tour.
Next up is the GUKPT Luton on October 19
