Online Poker legal in the US by end of the year?

American online poker players may be able to play legally by the end of this year – but only in Nevada.

At a recent Gaming Policy Committee meeting in Las Vegas, the Nevada Gaming Control Board said licences will be issued in 30-60 days with games predicted to follow in 6-8 months time.

Any companies applying for licences will have to prove that their systems can identify players and prevent underage players from playing as well as detecting whether a player is within the state’s borders.

Despite progress in other US states, Nevada remains the only state where online poker is legislatively authorised.
