Sunday Million Anniversary

PokerStars celebrates six years with bumper event

Never played a PokerStars Sunday Million before? Well, set a date for March 11 because the world’s biggest poker site is celebrating the sixth anniversary of its Sunday major with a $6m GTD extravaganza.

The bumper prizepool means the winner will walk off with at least $1m for just $215, and with qualifiers starting from $1, the special Sunday Million is sure to attract its fair share of donks (including Team PokerPlayer).

Ever since launching back in 2006, the Sunday Million has set the benchmark for online majors, with over 2.1m players signing up over the event’s history. Over $442m has been given away in that time, and now it’s your turn to get in on the action. But it won’t be easy.

All of PokerStars big Team Pro names will be among the thousands trying their luck, and according to bracelet winner Jason Mercier, the Sunday Million reminds him of the good old, pre-superstar, days.

‘When I think of the Sunday Million, I think back to being a 19-21 year old kid, grinding mid-stakes, looking for that big tournament score,’ Mercier told the PokerStars blog. ‘I would get excited every week to play the Sunday Million, hoping that would be the day that I would have my first six-figure score.’

And if you need a few tips for taking it down, just listen to PokerPlayer favourite Lex Veldhuis.

‘I like to play really aggressive in the Sunday Million, because there are so many players who wait for this tournament all week, and are too careful with their chips. This allows you to build a big stack early on, and cruise once you have it.’

The sixth anniversary Sunday Million will kick off at its regular time of 1430 EST (1930 GMT). For more info on how you can qualify on the cheap, visit PokerStars.co.uk
