Vamplew wins EPT London

Scotlands’s David Vamplew has won the EPT London, beating a record-breaking field to the £900,000 first prize.

Vamplew, who became the Scottish all-time money leader with his maiden live victory, had to endure a marathon heads-up battle with tournament regular John Juanda, finally claiming victory after his A-3 off-suit flopped two pair against Juanda’s K-2 for all the money.

The inexperienced Vamplew overturned a staggering 4 – 1 chip lead as the tournament moved into the early hours, outlasting a British record 848 players for his share of the £4,112,800 prize pool.

Up-and-coming pro Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese also recorded a final table visit, finishing seventh for £100,000 in what has become a stellar 2010 for the New Jersey pro.

The final table standings were as follows:

1. David Vamplew, £900,000
2. John Juanda, £545,000
3. Kyle Bowker, £300,000
4. Artur Wasek. £240,000
5. Kayvan Payman, £190,000
6. Fernando Bito, £145,000
7. Tom Marchese, £100,000
8. Per Ummer, £68,800
