PokerStars announce a $10 million guaranteed prize pool for the 2014 WCOOP main event

The eyes of the poker world are currently on Las Vegas and the WSOP, where the Main Event will this year have a guaranteed $10m for the winner. It’s the largest guaranteed first place prize in poker history but it’s online equivalent, the PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP), is also setting a formidable guarantee of its own.

The $5,200 main event of the 2014 WCOOP will have a $10m guaranteed prize pool, meaning that the winner of the tournament will likely take home a top prize in excess of $2m. The main event kicks off on September 28, 2014 and more details of the WCOOP including the full schedule will be released in due course. The WCOOP is the most prestigious online tournament series in the world, and its only real competition comes from PokerStars’s other offering, the SCOOP.

The WCOOP main event has also had some notable champions in the past too including JC Tran, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, and Tyson Marks. The 2012 winner, Marat ‘maratik’ Sharafutdinov, became a cult star in the poker world by famously typing into the chat box ‘I WONT MILLION’ when the remaining few players were looking to organise a deal. The crazy thing was that ‘maratik’ had qualified for the $5,200 event using just his frequent player points!

That route to qualification is open once again this year and satellites are currently running on PokerStars from just 1 FPP. Real money satellites are also open and start cheap too, with a buy-in of just $1.65 giving you a shot at online poker glory.
