Jason Mercier wins WSOP Bracelet

Jason Mercier continues his incredible run by winning the $ 1,500 PLO bracelet

After winning the EPT San Remo and the EPT London High Roller event in 2008, Jason Mercier has now added his first WSOP bracelet to the mix. The 23-year old American won Event #5, a $ 1,500 Pot-limit Omaha tournament, to take his total career earnings to a huge $ 3.22m.

Mercier first showed his promise in PLO tournaments at last year’s World Series of Poker Europe, finishing 8th in a £5,000 event after holding the chip lead throughout the early stages. After a dominating year across Europe in 2008, this is Mercier’s first substantial tournament win in his home country.

The bracelet was especially satisfying for Mercier after his disappointment at the WSOP last year, “I played in 22 events last year. I went deep in just one of them…I was really upset with how I played last year and now it feels great to win a bracelet, especially so early in the Series.”

Now that he’s translated his sensational European form across the pond, it’s a fair bet to say we will be hearing a lot from Jason Mercier in the 2009 WSOP.
