Negreanu loses to Tony Soprano

Brock ‘t soprano’ Parker beats Negreanu into 2nd place in WSOP Event #14

1. Brock Parker, USA, $ 223,697
2. Daniel Negreanu. Canada, $ 138,280
3. Tommi Horkko, Finland, $ 89,660
4. Kevin Hong, USA, $ 60,884
5. Barry Shulman, USA, $ 43,201
6. Kyle Ray, USA, $ 31,966

After Phil Ivey’s WSOP win earlier this week, Daniel Negreanu came so close last night to becoming the second poker superstar to clinch a 2009 bracelet. Negreanu was the chip leader throughout the $ 2,500 Six-Handed Limit Hold’em event and dominated the final table before getting heads up with online pro Brock ‘t soprano’ Parker.

While few knew his face, Parker was a formidable opponent that specialised in Limit Hold’em and was certainly no pushover for the fan favourite, Kid Poker. As the blinds rose higher and higher, Negreanu simply couldn’t hit a hand and had to settle for 2nd place.

A win would have been his fifth WSOP bracelet and, amazingly, his third in Limit Hold’em. Besides missing out on the first place prize money, Negreanu also failed to collect on his $ 200,000 much-publicised running bracelet bet with Ivey.

Still, with 3 cashes already it has been a great start to the 2009 WSOP for the popular Canadian.
