WSOP 2010 Begins!

The 41st annual World Series of Poker gets under way from the Rio in Las Vegas

The World Cup may be only a few days away but for poker fans and players the biggest event of the summer has already started – the World Series of Poker.

Held once again at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas the WSOP got under way on Friday May 28th with the traditional $500 Employee tournament. However, once that ritual was concluded the real action began with the first-ever $50,000 Poker Players Championship. This event – which is composed of eight separate poker variants and replaces the $50k H.O.R.S.E. – drew a star-studded field of 116 players and will be televised on ESPN later in the year.

Currently, unknown player Vladimir Schmelev and former WPT player of the year Michael ‘The Grinder’ Mizrachi are playign heads-up for the first open bracelet of the series.

This year’s WSOP will feature 57 events and will conclude in November with the final table of the $10,000 Main Event. Stick with PokerPlayer.co.uk for all the results as they come in, exclusive interviews and gossip from the biggest (poker) show on earth.
