Exclusive first interview! Sofia Lovgren joins 888poker

After much speculation, Sofia Lovgren’s next poker destination is now official as she has signed with 888poker as a member of their pro team. The 24-year-old Swede is the latest addition to 888’s stable of world-class poker pros that includes 2013 WSOP Main Event finalist JC Tran. Also on the 888poker team of Ambassadors is cricket legend Shane Warne and former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

It was announced in March that Lovgren would be leaving her former sponsors, PKR, after four years. It looks to be a great signing for 888poker, who have recently emerged as the second biggest poker site in the world when it comes to online traffic. PokerPlayer.co.uk spoke to Lovgren to find out why 888poker was the right move for her, plans for the future and why you should give 888poker a go…

PokerPlayer: How did the deal with 888 Poker come about?
Sofia Lovgren: I can’t give any details but I can say that we agreed quickly once I decided 888poker was where I wanted to go.

Were there many online poker sites that wanted to sign with you?
Yes, I’ve been approached before but I really didn’t want to leave PKR. Now, after four years as a Team Pro I’m finally ready for a change and 888poker feels totally right for me.

Why did you decide to sign with 888poker versus the competition?
These days it’s really impressive for a poker site to show record numbers both in active players and in profit. At the end of 2013 we climbed up and finished as the second biggest poker site in the world. At the same time there is room for improvement and I think I can contribute together with the great team of 888 Ambassadors to develop 888poker further. This is only the beginning!

What will the deal involve for you?
I will continue to play live tournaments like the EPT and WSOP and travel around the world representing 888poker. I will also be grinding mid-stakes cash online on 888poker as sofialovgren.

How much will you be playing on the live circuit? What will your WSOP schedule be?
I will play EPT, WPT and WSOP this year. In Vegas I think I’ll play around 9 WSOP events including the Main Event. There are also four 888 Live events in different destinations and I really look forward to playing poker in Australia for the first time –  the WSOP Melbourne in October will be fun!

Tell us more about 888poker. Why are they a good site to play on?
It’s the second biggest poker site in the world. It’s a growing company listed on the stock market and showed record profit in 2013 so 888 definitely have the muscles. There are lots of tables running, lots of good tournaments and the software is top class. All reviews lately rank 888poker at the top and praise the software. Try it and you’ll like it!

What do you think when you look back on your years as a PKR pro?
I was a Team Pro at PKR for four amazing years. It was a pleasure to work with so many nice and genuine people. The community is fantastic and I’m so grateful for the support and encouragement from PKR these years. I will always love PKR and will never forget that it was the site where I found my love for poker.

Was it hard to leave?
It was really hard to leave because PKR was like my second family and I’ve met a lot of friends there. I will see them more though!

What games will you be playing online at 888?
You will find me in the NLHE mid stakes cash games and in some daily/weekly tournaments with the screen name sofialovgren

PokerPlayer.co.uk would like to wish Sofia Lovgren and 888poker all the best in the future.
