First $1m Spin & Go jackpot drops on PokerStars

Lucky Russian player turns $5 into $1m in less than 15 minutes in a Spin & Go jackpot on PokerStars

Every poker player dreams of a big score, but most expect to have to put the time in. Big-field MTTs usually take at least three days of solid grinding before you can hope to come away with a seven-figure score. Russian player sss66666 took a shortcut when he became the first player to win the $1m jackpot in a $5 Spin & Go on PokerStars.

If you’ve had your head in a bucket for the past few months, Spin & Gos are three-handed hyper-turbo sit-and-gos, that award random prize pools from double the buy-in up to 3,000x the buy-in. The $5 buy-ins offer a special $1m jackpot, with second and third prizes of $100k, which was triggered for the first time yesterday at odds of 3 in 10,000,000 or 0.00003%. By comparison, the odds of winning the UK lottery are approximately 1 in 14,000,000.

We can only imagine what it must feel like to play a $5 Spin & Go and suddenly be faced with a potential prize of $1m. That was the situation facing the three players and it didn’t start off too well for sss66666 who lost half his stack early on. He battled back to victory though, courtesy of two hands where he was dealt A-8. Nonko999 was the first player to have his dreams crushed (although $100k isn’t a bad consolation prize!), before sss66666 flopped two pair on an A♠-8♠-9♠ flop. His opponent – geldduvel –must have had his heart in his mouth when he got all the money in on the J turn but his A-5 was drawing to some slim chops which didn’t appear on the 3river.

In total the Spin & Go took 13 minutes and 26 seconds to complete.

If you think you can defy the odds, the $1m jackpot Spin & Go promotion is continuing through the whole of January at PokerStars.
