Don’t miss the record-breaking Goliath when it returns to Coventry in August
The World Series might break the poker records in the USA, but we’re growing our own monster in Europe. The Grosvenor Goliath first bared its teeth in 2001 when 1,765 runners played for a £100k guarantee. The guarantee was doubled to £200k in 2012 and the field grew to 1,954. In 2013 the Goliath was the biggest live event in Europe, with 2,568 runners.
And it got even bigger last year when an incredible 3,349 runners played in the biggest live event outside of the USA, smashing the previous record of 2,732 at the Beijing Millions in China. Amatuer player Ryan Foster paid his £120 entry fee and enjoyed the run of his life at the Ricoh Arena. His only previous cash had been for £635 at a GUKPT side event in 2011. At the 2014 Goliath, Foster went all the way, running his stack up to an incredible first prize of £62,320!
This year we’re expecting the Goliath to grow again, and you can win your seat on Grosvenor Poker. For the next two Wednesdays and then daily until August 7, Grosvenor is guaranteeing over 200 £120 seats, with two mega satellites with 30 seats guaranteed in each on Wednesday July 29 and Wednesday August 5. Feeders run into these £8.80 satellites for just £1.10.
The Goliath boasts seven Day 1s, starting on Saturday August 8 and running through until the final table on Sunday August 16. Make it here and you’ll be guaranteed a serious sum of money.
You can play as many starting days as you want and re-enter up to twice per day, but it’s not an accumulator – you only get to take one stack through to Day 2.
The Goliath is more than just the flagship event too. Side events run daily, with entry from as little as £30, with a £220 50/50 starting on August 13. We’ll also be there with a fun Deep & Steep tournament on Sunday August 16. For the £35 buy-in you get 20,000 starting stacks, 25-minute levels and a guarantee of lots of action.
