Grand Prix Poker Tour: Theatre of Dreams for McNairney

United fan Daniel McNairney wins the Grand Prix Poker Tour at Old Trafford – St James’ Park is the next stop!

The Grand Prix Poker Tour made its fourth stop of the season at Old Trafford, home of Man United, and marked the occasion with its biggest live field so far. Two United legends, Norman Whiteside and David May, helped boost the numbers to 3,646, still off the 4,200 needed to avoid the overlay but a step in the right direction.

Both May and Whiteside busted their live Day 1s, but Whiteside had already run up a monster stack online and would return for Day 2 as the overall chip leader. He couldn’t could he? Well, no. Whiteside eventually fell in 58th and United fan Daniel McNairney went on to claim the £35k first prize, fittingly wearing a home shirt and – curiously – a pair of ski goggles. Quizzed afterwards he said, ‘I couldn’t find my sunglasses so the ski-mask is because I don’t want to give away tells.’ It seemed to do the job.

The Grand Prix Poker Tour is now heading up to Newcastle where a stadium full of frenzied Geordies awaits. The tournament plays out February 20-21 with online flights playing out now on partypoker. Click here for the very latest information.
