Fox Poker Club closes

Casino owner Genting UK has announced the Fox Poker Club on Shaftesbury Avenue in London will be closing with immediate effect. The Fox Poker Club was the only dedicated licensed poker venue in central London and it will be sorely missed by poker fans in the capital.

A spokesperson for Genting commented; “We have carefully reviewed the performance of the Fox Poker Club over the last few months. It has unfortunately become clear that despite offering a dedicated venue and the efforts of our staff, there is insufficient demand for the club to be viable in its current format.”

Genting has confimed that they have no desire to ignore London’s Poker scene and will be retaining a strong presence in the capital at the Genting Casino Cromwell Mint, as well as regular cash games at theThe Palm Beach in Mayfair. Genting’s plan is to spend the next three months developing the Fox Poker Club and eventually in March reopening it as a Genting Casino. ‘This is in keeping with our wider strategy and recent rebrand of the estate. The new casino will offer a wider variety of casino games in an improved and updated environment and is expected to open in March 2013,’said the spokesperson.

Genting also pointed to other poker rooms outside of the capital players could travel to noting ‘recent redevelopments’ that have taken place at the Genting Clubs in Reading and Westcliff. ‘Both clubs have seen significant investment in their poker facilities and will be offering regular, high quality cash games and tournaments within easy reach of London,’ a Genting spokesman said.
