Anthony Zinno crushes the WSOP, wins first bracelet

Anthony Zinno is on the run of his life and he doesn’t want the WSOP to end

It’s not easy cashing in major poker tournaments. It’s a lot harder to make final tables. And winning is something else entirely – only one person can go away with the lion’s share of the spoils.

Anthony Zinno has made a mockery of this in 2015. In February he won back-to-back WPT titles – the Fallsview Poker Classic and the LA Poker Classic. That netted him the 2015 WPT Player of the Year title.

He then won his next tournament, the $24,500 High Roller at the WPT 101 Shooting Stars, but only managed second in the one after that, the $2,200 Six Max at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. He followed up with a ninth at a €2,200 NLHE event at the EPT Grand Final before jetting over to Vegas for the World Series.

So far he’s played five tournaments and final tabled them all, which is a ridiculous statistic in itself. He finished sixth in the $10k Omaha Hi-Low Split, seventh in the $5k NLHE Eight-Handed, fifth in the $10k Limit and seventh in the $111k ONE DROP High Roller. And last night he crowned these by winning the $25k PLO High Roller for $1,122,196 and his first gold bracelet. He beat a stacked field, with Shaun Deeb finishing eighth and Juha Helppi fifth. He closed a dominating final table performance by beating Pakinai Lisawad heads-up.

His record at the WSOP is incredible, but it also means that he’s final-tabled the last ten tournaments he’s cashed in, and won four. Talking afterwards he acknowledged the run he’s been on at the WSOP saying, ‘Mathematically speaking, you can’t explain this run I’ve had. Making five final tables is just incredible. Obviously, there is some luck involved. But I beat the odds. It’s a statistical anomaly.’

It officially makes Anthony Zinno our beast of the series so far, but he’s still trailing Mike Gorodinsky in the WSOP Player of the Year, by 100 points. Expect that to change when (not if) he makes his next final table of the summer.
