WSOP Daily Digest, May 26: All eyes on the Colossus

The tables are up, the dealers are in town and the cards are being primed – are you ready for the start of the 2015 World Series of Poker?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The 2015 WSOP starts tomorrow and if you want the lowdown on what’s occurring every day, just come to PokerPlayer365.com for your daily digest. We’ll be bringing you the results, a look forward to the day’s action and all the information on what’s coming up on the live stream so you won’t miss a minute of the action.

The first two events kick off tomorrow, the traditional Casino Employees curtain raiser (Event 1) and a four-day $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament (Event 2). All eyes are on the big one though, the Colossus (Event 5) that starts on Friday and is shaping up to smash the record for the biggest live event of all time.

That record is currently held by the 2006 Main Event, with 8,773 runners, but the Colossus has a load of things in its favour. For starters, the buy-in is $565, the cheapest for any bracelet event in history. $65 is being withheld for entry fees and tournament staff, which means the WSOP is expecting at least 10,000 runners to hit the $5m guarantee. However, the Colossus has four starting flights (May 29 and 30 at 10am and 6pm) and if players are knocked out they can re-enter as many flights as they want. That means it could be huge with players taking several pops at running up a big stack.

Rumours are circulating that over 6,000 players have already pre-registered, and current estimates are ranging from a conservative 12,000 runners up to an incredible 20,000. If you take the actual line as somewhere in the middle it’s going to be an incredible spectacle. If you’re thinking of playing it we’d seriously suggest pre-registering as soon as possible. If you turn up on the day be prepared for a very long wait.

Live stream

The first final table on the live stream is the Casino Employees event on May 28, followed by the $5k NLHE and $3k Shootout on May 30. Catch all the action here.
