Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival gears up for Main Event

Pros and national celebrities swarm on Canadian city in anticipation of CAN$1,000,000 guaranteed main event…

Full Tilt’s inaugural Montreal Festival has already attracted a record number of people to its opening events and if it keeps going like this it is sure to become one of the largest poker events ever to be held on Canadian soil.

The first cards were up in the air back on September 21 and the 13-day poker extravaganza is scheduled to finish on October 3. Like all big poker festivals, there is an exciting array of side events on offer too, but it’s the big one that’s the reason everyone is in town. Beginning on Friday September 27 the CAN$1,000,000 guaranteed main event is a re-entry tournament and features three start days. This means any players who get knocked out on either of the first two start days has another shot at making that elusive final table.

Adding to the glamour and glitz of the whole affair, the tournament sponsors have also brought along a fair few of its big name professionals to add even more glitz to this showcase fortnight of poker. Representing Full Tilt, Gus Hansen, Martins Adeniya, Carlos Mavca and Hana Soljan will all be in town, plus the likes of Jonathan Duhamel, Vanessa Rousso, Chris Moneymaker, Victor Ramdin and David Williams are all here on behalf of PokerStars.

A host of popular Canadian celebrities and sports stars have also signed up for the main event including Jean-Michel Anctil and Jean-Thomas Jobin (comedians), Jean-Nicolas Verreault (actor), Marc Dupré and Émily Bégin (singer/songwriters), and retired NHL players Matthew Barnaby and Georges Laraque.

If you’re in town and want a shot at what is sure to be a huge first prize there is still time to qualify via live satellites at the Playground Poker Club, or if your bankroll can take the hit, you can just buy in directly for $1,000 + $100.

For everyone else full main event coverage including live reporting, photographs and videos can be found here. And just so you don’t miss out on any of the action, Full Tilt will also be running a live stream beginning September 30th once the three start days are over and this will run all the way until a champion has been crowned.
