Global Poker League: Wildcards announced, Season 1 starts next week!

You can watch all of the action live, starting next week, on the Global Poker League Twitch channel

The schedule for the first season of the Global Poker League has been released ahead of the first round of matches next week. The regular season starts on April 5 and runs through to September 22, with three matches per week playing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These matches will be played online on the proprietary GPL platform and streamed via Twitch and GPL.TV, with commentary from Sam Grafton and Griffin Benger.

The GPL will also incorporate live matches from the Summer Series – 33 days of live heads-up battles, which run from June 6 to July 8. These will be filmed on location at a studio in Las Vegas in The Cube, the custom-built GPL glass arena.

The GPL play-offs will then whittle down the top eight teams to the final four, who will play for the first GPL title at the SSE Arena Wembley, November 22-23. Tickets for the GPL Finals will go on sale in May.

See the full schedule of matches here and catch all the action on Twitch.TV/GPL, starting April 5 at 12pm ET (5pm UK time)

The wildcard picks

We’re still waiting for all of the full team line-ups. Team managers have until the end of the day to announce their wildcards picks. So far, six teams have announced, and these two wildcard picks complement the draft line-ups below. Philipp Gruissem is the only manager so far who hasn’t picked himself to play. Liv Boeree has strengthened an already formidable line-up with Sam Trickett and we make them favourites for the title.
