Horse racing 05/10: Five stand-out bets for a massive day in the horse racing calendar at Longchamp

With seven Group 1 races on the card, Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe day at Longchamp is an absolute belter.

We run the rule over five of these showdowns below and it could prove a productive day for the British and Irish travellers.

Prix de l’Abbaye – Cotai Glory @ 8/1 (BetVictor)

Interestingly, 10 of the last 12 winners of this has never previously triumphed in Group 1 company, which is a negative against the well-fancied Sole Power. Cotai Glory was three lengths clear in a Group 2 last time when jockey George Baker fell off in the shadows of the finishing post after his saddle slipped and he has looked ominous in four starts over 5f. His one poor result was when sixth at Royal Ascot, but he ran on in eye-catching fashion after blowing the start. Missing the start was critical too because the horse prefers to front-run.

Prix Marcel Boussac – Agnes Stewart @ SP (BetVictor)

Some superstar two-year-old fillies have won this in the past including Arc heroine Zarkava and Agnes Stewart looked to have big potential when winning the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster last time. She sauntered into the lead on the bridle, having received little cover early and then fairly comfortably put the race to bed.

Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere – The Wow Signal @ SP (BetVictor)

The Wow Signal has had the speed to win over 6f on all of his three career starts with the latest coming at Group 1 level against a recognised speedball. Although not proven, it is widely expected that he will further relish this step up to 7f and in the last decade the only have horse to attempt the Prix Morny and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere double was successful.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe – Harp Star @ 8/1 (BetVictor)

There is already an article live on our site promoting the chances of Harp Star in the Arc and nothing has happened in the time since to make us change our mind. Article can be read here

Prix Du Cadran – Bathyrhon @ SP (BetVictor)

Bathyrhon is the only horse in the field to have triumphed on their last start when landing the Prix Gladiateur and that contest has generally proved the best trial for this. The fact he has been supplemented suggests added trainer confidence and this is his first attempt over this 2m4f trip.
